Introduction

Amberley Working Museum is based at the former Chalk Pits in West Sussex and is a partner in BT's Connected-Earth project. The CE Museum at Amberley is home to a collection of historic vehicles which, many years ago, originated from the Telecom Technology Showcase.

The Connected-Earth gallery at Amberley was officially opened in May 2002 by HRH Prince Michael of Kent. The purpose-built gallery features the most comprehensive exhibition of telecommunications heritage in the UK, and represented a major investment by BT as part of its £6 million Connected-Earth project.

In 2014 the Connected-Earth partner museums assumed equal responsibilities for the heritage organisation, as BT stepped back from the project. This also allowed additional museums to join the scheme. In late 2019 BT switched off the Connected-Earth website, hinting that BT Archives might one day re-host some of the content.

Professor Nigel Linge recaps on the CE project via www.engagingwithcommunications.com
