Special Range Telephones: The Deltaphone
Special Range Telephones - The Deltaphone
The Special Range Telephone portfolio gave Subscribers more choice in the types of apparatus available for rental. And as the UK market was opened up for competition, a combination of rental/single payment options was offered, leading ultimately to outright sale/ownership of the instrument. Originally, Special Range Telephones attracted an additional rental for a five year term, after which no extra charges were payable, but the phone was still the property of the Post Office. Exceptionally, renters could request the phone to be removed to different premises, when they moved home.

Deltaphone and Deltaphone Deluxe

In the early Eighties, three versions of STC's Deltaphone were added to British Telecom's "Special Range Telephones" portfolio.

The Special Range Telephone leaflet read...

"Combines the style of the Trimphone with the distinction of real leather. The new luxurious version of our popular lightweight telephone has all the special Trimphone features and can be installed as a main telephone or as an extension around the home."

The Deltaphone, manufactured by Standard Telephones & Cables Ltd., was installed and maintained by British Telecom.
