Strowger Equipment
Apart from the Strowger two-motion selectors, many exchanges were packed with rows and rows of sub's uniselectors, lamps, test jackfields, wiring blocks and lots of sundry items to enable all of the equipment to work together. Trunk exchanges had other wonderful kit, such as, motor uniselector groups (MUGs) and RTs or Registers.

Here we look at a selection of equipment...

Overview

In a very large exchange there would have been rows and rows of racks, all cram-packed with every conceivable piece of equipment, essential in the workings of the telephone service, of bygone days. Every nut, bolt and length of angle-iron fitted together to give the impression of a solid mass of electro-mechanical equipment and all painted in Light Straw (cream) coloured paint.
