GPO South - Knightrider Street
Seen opposite is the Knightrider Street elevation of the extension to the Post Office Savings Bank. A walkway/enclosed bridge connected the annex with the main building on Queen Victoria Street. Addle Hill is on the far left.

Knightrider Street

The Addle Hill annex to the Post Office Savings Bank extended from Knightrider Street, up Addle Hill to encompass the whole block to Carter Lane. The main HQ on Queen Victoria Street was connected to the Addle Hill annex by overhead walkways which spanned Knightrider Street. In the 1930s when the original Queen Victoria Street site was demolished, the replacement building was again connected to Addle Hill by new bridges, which can be seen in the 2001 photos below.

GPO South - Knightrider Street
The original walkways were a design feature of the Addle Hill annex. However, the replacement bridges in the 1930s were more obvious as they were supported by external girders, as can be seen in the photo opposite.

North Block, GPO South
By making use of the roof area, a fifth floor was accommodated within the North Block complex of GPO South.

Porticos
Porticos
There were two 'Victoria's Reign' portico entrances in GPO South, which were incorporated into the Bell Yard extension. One on Knightrider Street and the other on Carter Lane.
