Overview

History

Equipped at Enfield Factory 1971/2 and destined for the Scotland Region of Post Office Telecommunications. MNDX No. 323 was found in a BT car park near Blackburn in November 2002. BT didn't even know it was there, but eventually they agreed to donate it to a preserved railway.

The exchange was unrestored, inside and out, but was totally complete and was able to carry calls after only an hours 'fiddling'. It was painted business systems blue on top of the orginal green finish. The new owners made repairs to the chassis to replace rotten metal and the leaking roof was fixed.

Following the primer, the grey undercoat was applied, before the two green top coats were to complete the paint job.

Chris Barlow carried out the restoration and the last update (July 2004) was that the roof and chassis needed painting to complete the outside work. The MNDX was expected to serve the railway as part of a planned extension, all linked into the rest of the network.
