Faraday 2A: The Party and the Cake
The Party and the Cake
The party started at midday and went on to midnight for the benefit of day and night staff on various duties. Although operator services worked out of the North Block in the 1920s, it is thought that Switchroom 2A may not have opened before the mid 1930s.

The Cake

After the switchroom had closed to traffic, a party was organised for all staff, past and present, to celebrate more than 50 years of connecting calls. A special cake was baked, and everyone was invited...

Ladies and gentlemen...
Ladies and gentleman - I want to tell you a story...

This cake doesn't simply celebrate the closure of 2A; it serves as a tribute to the hundreds of telephonists who have worked over the years in this switchroom connecting vital calls across the world.

Just a few people have cameras, with real film. Mobile phones were confined to wealthy car owners and digital cameras were far from reality.

Hurrah, let the party begin!
The cake is cut with great ceremony as it marks the end of an era in Faraday.
